History

The Journal was founded more than three decades ago by Bryan A. Garner, America’s preeminent usage expert, lexicographer, and commentator on legal style. Garner served as editor in chief for the first volumes 1 through 7. He was succeeded as editor in chief by Joseph Kimble (volumes 8 through 14) and, later, Mark Cooney (volumes 15 through 20).

The current editor in chief is Megan E. Boyd.
